Let's just get this one out of the way. Since the recommended blog theme this month is 'want,' I do have one materialistic desire. I really want a Mac. I'd like a laptop that I can curl up in bed with. The computer we have now is the one we bought when we got married. It is suffering, and I would so like to put it out of its misery.
I had planned to buy a computer with the money I earned from my freelance job, but instead I had to buy Cobra health insurance. I know talking about money makes most people a little squeamish, but I could have bought several computers with what that health insurance cost. And then I am reminded how lucky we were in our unemployment situation. Thankfully Alex had a new job in the works and we had freelance work and family members to help us through. I feel like we are definitely the lucky ones. I can only imagine that for thousands of families weathering the economic crisis isn't quite as smooth. And then I kind of feel like a jerk for wanting that computer.
I assume a lot of people are just window shopping these days. So...I'm curious, what is one thing that you want?

Nothing wrong with daydreaming. I've been dreaming of something much more unrealistic than you, so don't feel bad about your want. I want a brand new kitchen. From top to bottom. Complete and total renovation. Too bad that won't be happening any time soon. Here's to daydreaming.
Ha, you and I are on the same wavelength! Our computer is nine years old...on its last feeble legs. We have been waiting for it to truly die so that we can buy a new Apple. I dream your same dream. Want. New. Computer. :-)
To want a Mac is not a wasted want. It is transcendent.
I want a Mac,too! My brother got one as a graduation gift and I was quite jealous...I don't even own a computer, so u are all a step ahead of me ;)
Don't feel bad for wanting...everybody wants SOMETHING!
only one? if only! sadly, I am quite a material girl. working on that.
the 'want' month has helped me sort out that I want immaterial things more, which is good. but still. can't stop wanting more handbags, shoes, art supplies, books, etc., etc., etc...
it's hard to spend so much money on things like cobra, car repairs, etc. but it's what good moms do. and that's you. you can't buy that.
My whole family would like a Wii!
i want lots of things!
1. a new phone...ONLY 8 MORE DAYS!
2.a camera...or to find the one i lost
3. to see you...awww im so sweet!
This is such a timely post! Yesterday, I just blogged about how good it is to be more of a spend thrift in these times, saving up for the "what if" ... but it is also good for the community at large if you do spend money (i.e., you save jobs). Tough balance. Having said that, Sweets and I have been and continue to spend a lot of money on all things related to our condo. I'm going to blog more on that next week.
right now i want better health insurance. i hurt my shoulder and arm. i need an mri, but can't get one because i don't have a spare 2k laying around (my deductible. i was stunned.). so i can either be in pain or find the $ so i can get a proper diagnosis. great choices. *winces while typing*
I pouted about not buying a new van...so your desire for a Mac isn't crazy.
I want a new doormat. Ours crumbled away. I also want a rain coat. Amazing how our "wants" turn into "do we really need those" when kids come into the picture. Take care!
A red purse. I don't know why exactly.
An immersion hand blender to puree soups. I'd also like an ice cream maker, but that can be put off until it's a bit warmer.
