self portrait challenge: celebration

I mentioned in a previous post that my goal for the year is to become more centered and calm. Yoga is a key component in my plan. I've also come to realize how special the hour-long yoga class is to my emotional, mental and physical balance. It's so incredibly refreshing to have that time to focus inward, let go of the clutter and align my mind and body.

I am hoping that with each class I feel less and less guilty. It's hard to find calm when I've just had to pry each of my child's fingers from around my neck, hand her off to a childcare stranger, and hear her cries until the door slams shut behind me. But I think the brief separation is getting easier for her, too.

So...I'm celebrating the beginning of the journey to being centered. In my mind, everything and everyone in my life is spinning. My goal is that we all can circle smoothly, congruously. And being close to me doesn't cause turbulence. I still have a ways to go.

Namaste.

I love this centered celebration self portrait you took. It's a similar goal to my hopes for this year.

Yay Christy! I'm glad you're doing this for yourself, and please work on letting that guilt slip away. As long as you feel comfortable with the person you're leaving her with, Elly is fine. She has to learn somehow to calm and soothe herself (just like you!) and to be independent, so this is really not a bad thing, especially in such small doses. Good for you!

Oh, these are great photos! I wish I could learn to do yoga, I need it - haha. De-stressing is always wonderful.

I love this! I just started yoga also. I was stressed that the hour and a half class would take too much time from my schedule. I relaxed so much during that first class that now I look forward to it. It's a high point in my week! I was also amazed that my knee pain was gone after the stretches. This summer when I'm off school, I hope to be able to go twice a week.
Gorgeous photos.

I think I'm in need of some yoga too! Looks like it takes a lot of strength though.
