Seriously...I cannot stop eating blackberries. Pints of them seem to just disappear. And has fresh lime juice always tasted so good on EVERYTHING?! Summer is delicious.
And it's also a good time for reading. I'm excited to read this book which is written by one of my mom's former students (full disclosure: she is thanked in the acknowledgments). I'm also excited that Pat Conroy finally has a new book coming out. And the girls love their new book, which is illustrated by Alex's old pal (and hula seventy's husband).
So I'm curious, what are you reading....and eating this summer?

Funny that you should ask this question, because I was just thinking about blogging about my first summer read. It's called "sheet music"...basically, it's a book on sex (grin). I'm eating watermelon and strawberries by the stuffed mouthful...YUMMY!
Bing cherries! When they're not like $12 a pound, I eat those things up.
We just made this brilliant corn, black bean, pepper, cilantro, tomato and avocado salad last weekend, completed by none other than fresh lime juice. Awesome! And it went brilliantly with the steaks we had marinating in a lime juice, soy sauce and garlic mix!
Reading isn't quite as successful - I can barely make it through my Atlantic and New Yorker subscriptions without feeling tuckered out!
"My Sister's Keeper" is what I will be starting tomorrow, by the ocean. And then on to Janet Evanovich Stephanie Plum Series. It's about a lingerie buyer turned bounty hunter-with issues. Hilarious! Oreo's are my guilty summer pleasure. By the pool, they are the best. You would never see me eating them in the winter!
blackberries are one of the things i miss most about living in the northwest.
i'm reading the anthropology of turquoise by ellen meloy...it's beautiful.
I love summer reading and totally excited to hear about Pat Conroy's upcoming new book. Just finished reading Tales of the Beedle Bard and The Shack. I'm also half-way through The Six Wives of Henry VIII by Alison Weir and getting ready to start Julia's Chocolates.
As for the foods of summer, I'm downing watermelon like it's going out of style and have been on fresh squeezed lemonade kick. Gotta love summertime.
a friend just gave me a complicated kindness by miriam toews. i'm looking forward to getting into it. i'm eating a lot of shrimp and cantaloupe, and drinking a lot of vodka with pom lemonade and crushed ice. and i wonder why i'm getting fatter by the day...
Glad the girls like the book! I really kept the kids in mind when I drew it. Wanted them to have fun as they turned each page.
Look for a few easter eggs: "Ava's Pizza" & "Ol' Man Ezra's Broccoli Farm", also I'm in there as one of the basketball centers.
oddly enough, I also can't get enough of Blackberries this year. I made a cobbler with them earlier this week. YUM!
I'm still trudging through my winter read (world without end)... slowly making progress... but I'm glad to see my fellow Beaufortonian, Conroy, finally graced us with his presence again. Hopefully it will motivate me to finish my current read and move on to bigger and better things.
I just ate a handful of wild blackberries from my yard. Super tart, but super awesome.
