I left the girls in Georgia after Thanksgiving so I could wrap up this freelance job. It's a good thing because this has been a ridiculously stressful week. I miss them, though. A lot.
As soon as this job is over I'm bringing on the Christmas holiday spirit full force. I would really like to start a new tradition with the girls. Any suggestions? Anything special you do with your kids? Or you did as a kid?
Also...I want to give the girls a book each year for Christmas. I would love recommendations. What is your favorite children's book?
Because of work, my brain is totally mush. I'll be back next week.

I love that the girls grandparents are able to step in and help out. Sure makes life easier on you.
Holiday traditions? I think it depends on your purpose ... helping others (volunteer at a soup kitchen together) ... doing something together (have a movie day where you go to see 1-2 movies together plus a meal out) ... DIY so they have keepsakes from their childhood (make ornaments together).
Alright, that's all this Jewish girl has to offer. =)
I came across this cute and simple family tradition today.
My mom has two or three family christmas cookie recipes that we made every year when I was growing up-- and still do if we're together during the holidays.
hi christykins... sorry i missed you in ATL. you opened a can of worms with the children's book question, there are about a million i would recommend. have you seen the paper bag princess by robert munsch? could be a great one for independent canon - about a princess who basically ends up rescuing her prince and then deciding she doesn't need him anyway! i used to read it with my kindergarten/1st grade kids. we also just discovered 'A is for Art' by stephen t. johnson - it's awesome, full of abstract art for each letter of the alphabet and text such as "H - hoopla! Hordes of handmade, homogeneously hued, hollow hula hoops in a huge heap hang and hover from a hook high up, where the letter H is hidden". it's delightful. i have way too many to keep suggesting if you need more ideas... happy finishing the freelancing!
Hifriend! My aunt has always closed the kids' bedroom doors at night and wrapped them in. This way there's no peeking and they have great pix of the kids busting through the paper Christmas morning! I also love the idea of getting to unwrap one present on Christmas eve...and you can choose for that to be some new pjs for cute Christmas morning pictures. It'll take years for them to figure out it's always pjs! Happy Holidays!
"The Littlest Angel" is my all time favorite Christmas story. I received it as a gift from my parents when I was a little girl, about 50 years ago.
My mother had some patterns for three-dimensional geometric figures. She would set aside a day to make them with my brother and me out of sturdy, colorful foil paper. After sprinkling them with glitter, we would hang them in windows or over doorways for additional cheerful decorations. Memories that have lasted more than half a century!
