tribute

My grandmother's funeral turned into somewhat of a public freak show of family drama.  To be honest I have quite a few unanswered questions about what happened today, but for now I would like to forget about the drama and pay tribute to my grandmother.  She was a spunky lady. Never afraid to tell you exactly what was on her mind.  Her stories often didn't seem to have a real point or connection to anything, just something she was thinking about and wanted to share.  She could make a mean pound cake and scrumptious banana pudding.  She was tiny in stature, but large in personality.

I took this picture at my cousin's wedding this past October.  My grandmother had to be prodded a bit to get out on the dance floor with my dad, but once she did, she was definitely the center of attention.  I think this dance may have been the highlight of her year.  She loved telling and retelling people about that night.  Today I found out a cousin of mine slipped the sparkly gold tennis shoes my grandmother wore that night into her casket.  And that is right where they should be, because really there is no one else who could dance in those shoes like she did.

How wonderful, that you have such a sweet memory of her that is so recent. Drama is for wedding and funerals. I am sorry you had to deal with it. We had it too recently.

I'm glad your blog gave you an opportunity to pay tribute to your g'ma instead of worrying about the family drama. After my grandparents passed away, I started a tradition on each of their birthdays ... strawberry shortcake on my grandfather's birthday and a day at the museums on my grandmother's. That way, I carry forward things that were important to them. Maybe you can now do the same?

I am sorry to hear of the drama, I can surely relate, I'll have to tell you the drama that ensued at my grandfather's funeral. I am so glad that you didn't let it steal the spotlight from your grandmother, she sounds like a marvelous woman.

I love the gold shoes and they sparkled and shined like your grandmother's personality. I wish I had gotten the chance to meet her, but I feel like I knew her just from the stories you told me about her. I know this about her, she was loved and will be missed.

Love you.
