a year to set myself free

I'm high-strung. Chronically stressed out. Impatient. Quick-tempered. It's not a pretty picture. More and more I'm starting to think my headaches are tension rather than migraine. And it makes sense. I am a tense person whose emotions lie just beneath the surface ready to attack at the slightest swing of my mood. It's so much a part of me. And it's what I most dislike about myself.

Time to change.

I'm giving myself one year to become more centered. Calm. Controlled. And free of whatever unimportant things that have been muddling up my life and getting in the way of what is important.

I'm very interested in understanding Zen. I like that it seems to focus less on theoretical knowledge and religious teachings and more on one's self and true nature. Being still. Quieting the mind. I feel more relaxed just thinking about it.

I'm definitely no expert when it comes to ancient Eastern philosophy, so I'm starting simple. I've been reading this because it is directly applicable to my life. I've also piled this and for fun this and this on my nightstand for now. I asked for and received a new yoga mat for Christmas. My hope is that I take all this seriously and it becomes a complete mind, body and spirit overhaul.

It's going to be a great year.

I love your resolution is all about yourself. You're so good about giving to your children and family, it's high time you put a little of that focus and energy into yourself. Everyone wins in the end!

I've read (most of) Tao Te Ching and it was just soothing reading it. I couldn't put the book down. I think it will help you on your journey...and it doesn't seem to directly conflict with any other beliefs you may have.

I'm trying to work on some of those same things this year.

Oh, my new crush is Gerard Butler!

I love this! I miss living in Chapel Hill where I attended a regular yoga class. Not too many options here in Stanly County
