When a friend of mine suggested we have our play date at a local historic site, I thought she was asking for trouble. With no playground, person in an animal costume or pool in sight, I thought major meltdowns were definitely in store. But our time today at the gold mine was pure joy. Canon had plenty of rocks and bugs to play with. Even when we took a tour of the dark and narrow underground tunnels of the mine, she was perfectly content, taking it all in and following the crowd.
Canon is constantly defying my expectations. So often she understands more and can do more than I expect of her. Now I'm starting to wonder how often my expectations hold her back. Or maybe this is just parenting. Maybe she'll spend a lifetime showing me what a cool kid she is, a person I couldn't even imagine or expect.

I take it that historic site was Reed's Gold Mine...that's funny. We were just there with our nephew and Evan last Saturday!
Oh, and Evan did really well too. He loved digging in the water for rocks (he thought he found gold about a million times). We did the underground tour and Evan was the same...followed right along with the crowd listening. And I was the same as you...thinking he'd be going crazy! I definitely limit his abilities in my mind too often!
How wonderful that you have told me that. Just this past weekend I wondered if it was too much for my kids. I can't wait to go.

Kids are amazing! I think often times they can do more than we give them credit for. Cannon sounds like a neat girl. I hope to get to see you guys more.
Hey girl. It was great to see you. Hope you buy something special for Canon with that gold the worker (I mean you) found. :) I think it may prove to be a lousy doorstop.
